Local artist Alex Rain spends all year creating this Halloween experience for the community. They design and build the props, and yard walk alone, with a little help on the heavy lifting. Alex has a background in theater, visual arts, and writing. They use as much reclaimed material as possible, with a goal of saving it from the Iowa City landfill. The trail for the mini-attraction runs through the front and back yards of her house. This year's additions include a scaled recreation of Iowa City's famous black angel, and a sculpture of Medusa.
The walk includes lights, music, and effects. Only operating on select nights. During trick-or-treating hours on Halloween there is an additional mini-haunted house with actors. Although this haunt is scary, there is an option for actors to stand and wave. Alex is often performing as Stabby the Clown, and on some nights there is an additional volunteer performer.

Alex's attention to detail is amazing. My child was a bit scared, and she walked her through with a flashlight, explaining what was coming next. It was very above and beyond. When she hammered a nail in her nose, my daughter loved it, as did I!

This haunt gets bigger and better every year. All the props are great and scenes are well designed. Perennial props like Medusa and River Styx are always special. A new addition this year, the Black Angel, is one of my favorites and she's absolutely outstanding. The haunt host, Stabby the Clown, has added a new trick. It involves a hammer, nail, a sign and Stabby s nose. It's unbelievable and very creepy, a great performance. If you are there on Halloween don't miss the enormous puppet handled by a talented puppeteer (Jo) and Zoltar and the fortune telling booth. Alex's artistic creativity and set design talent are obvious (not to mention acting abilities)! There's no mistaking that many hours of hard work and love go into this and all the actors are terrific and an amazing part of this haunt. A great community event and it's FREE. Don't miss it.

This haunt is well thought out. The layout is perfect. The props are excellent and unique. I love that they’re not just store bought basics. The attraction is free and great for the community. The character Stabby is a nice touch.
