In 1936, a woman named Pearl Shine was hired to kill her husband and she is believed to haunt the area. Pearl was caught and convicted of the murder and ended up dying while in prison. Other spirits are said to wander here, including that of a man who committed suicide by walking into the muddy bog, and a traveling peddler who was robbed and decapitated at the location in 1858. People have reportedly seen him wandering around, carrying his head.

Definitely something eery there

I have been to this location many times. It is a bit of a hike but a beautiful area. Most of the times I have been there with equipment to try to have a paranormal experience something has happened. Whether it be voices and answers coming through the spirit box or the unexplained smell of cigarette smoke behind me. At night it is very spooky. Worth checking out even if its just for the experience.

Be Prepared to Walk

Mossy Glen is public access but the public often doesn't realize how rough the terrain is. Farmers get tired of taking time away from work to use their tractor to drag people out of dumb places. But most of them will do for free. It's beautiful. It's not haunted. But choose good weather, take 4WD ATV or be prepared to walk. Keep in mind that no one has a right to trespass on private property, and the county is responsible for the road or lack thereof. And this is a forest preserve not a state park.

beatiful but not haunted

a very pretty area with a box canyon and springs. the farmer adjacent to the public area has plowed up the road in, it is still public access so do not let this stop you from enjoying your public lands. if you have any problems let the local authorities know, along with the state legislature to complain about the lack of funding of the DNR to maintain this area.
